Sent to Cat Experts August 06, 2006 9:23 a.m.

My 2 year old siamese cat was given frontline on Thursday and by Friday pm was extremely lethargic. It is now Sunday and he is still lethargic and seems to have problems with his legs. He is eating a little and wants to go out and lay on the deck.

What exactly is going on with his legs?
Did he ever have frontline before?

He has never had frontline before.
He seems to have problems walking down the stairs (he cried) and he is very tentative when laying down.

Dear friend,

Some cats, especially Siamese can be very snesitive to frontline and other monthly products that are absorbed under the skin. They can present with neurolgical symptoms like rear leg weakness, lethargy inappetite, etc.

Clean the area where the product was applied with a little dawn dishwashing liquid. Rinse well. Get him to eat spongy material like canned cat food and drink as much as possible - you can give him plain pedialyte and eve tuna water. You want to feed as much as possible so you will dilute this product in his blodstream.

If he does not readily improve or gets any worse he will need to go to the ER for subcutanious fluids and a steroid shot. Hopefully that will not be necessary. O course, do ever use monthly flea control on your baby in the future.

Please get back to me and let e know waht is going on with him. I will be here all day and night and be happy to help in any way possible.

Very sincerely,

Terri
