Question

Cat--failing health

Sent to Cat Experts September 23, 2006 7:34 p.m.

There is a long story involved here. I took my cat (Sid) in when he was about six weeks old from a friend. We had a few problems at the beginning. His mother had excessive fleas, and transferred them to him. We had never had these types of problems with our other cat (Niki), and it took us about a month or so to take him to the vet. He was administered shots, and had some form of anemia. Sid's treatment was very successful. We had absolutely no problems with him until recently, when, shocked by him urinating around the house (and realizing it was most probably a territorial thing). We took him to be neutered. The day after we brought him home, he seemed a bit off. We took him back to the doctor's, who said he had a temperature. We, of course, blamed it on him and the execution of the surgery--because for a year or so, he had been perfectly fine. In any case, he was kept overnight and was fine when we brought him home the next day. Then we forgot to administer the antibiotics given to us after the surgery for about a day. Sid fell ill again, and we took him to the doctor's (once again.) He was kept in for four days and was in "intensive care", and when we were taking him in, told that he was still refusing to eat. Leukemia tests returned negative. He took a blood test, and the doctor now claims he has a low WBC count. The doctor claims that cats are more prone to falling to leukemia after surgery. All in all, the doctor's account of what's happening doesn't match up with things he previously said and it seems as if he is grasping at excuses. Now, it's sunday and my cat looks quite at high risk. We are taking him to Maryland on Monday to be consulted with a more professional doctor, but while we wait--we are administering the antiobiotic and milk and water through a dropper. Is there anything I can do??? I'm extremely frightened, because this cat is like my child, and he is very...very...very sick. He vomitted this morning--it was green and full of mucus. His mouth is full of mucus, and I am doing my best to keep him comfortable. Please help me!!! What can I do until monday to make him better??????? Are there any suggestions as to what "disease" might ail him like this??? He was extremely healthy and very energetic before this. I'd really appreciate an answer as quick as possible.
