I am afraid of medication for my cat; she has a heart problem and going into kidney failure and the vet prescribed Benazepril 0.25 zml (l.5MG). I am so afraid to give it to her as I am afraid that she will die (my own mind is telling me this) if she takes this medication. She is l5 yrs. old and eats like a horse; she has to symptoms of kidney failure except her kidney values, etc. Please respond to me; thank you and God Bless you. Is this medication safe for her; is my mind playing tricks on me. Will she die if i DO NOT give tis to her.    Mary Ann - lheaventoo!aol.com

Hello kitty frantic mom, I know you are worried, but your vet would not have prescribed it if he/she did not think it would be beneficial.

Benazepril is commonly used to treat BOTH heart conditions and kidney failure in cats, and I would give it to my own cat if needed.

This is from a web site concerning people, but the same is true for cats:

"Benazepril hydrochlorothiazide, brand name Lotensin®, is a medication used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension), congestive heart failure, and chronic renal failure." (from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benazepril)
