Question

I have noticed recently when brushing my cat, his backside ...

Sent to Cat Experts August 03, 2006 8:02 p.m.

I have noticed recently when brushing my cat, his backside rump area is very tender, I can't get close enough to it to see if there is a bite or sliver. He is an indoor cat,but spends time on the patio in good weather. He is normal in every other way. Thank you

Dear friend,

There is a condition alled studtail which affects neutered males as well as whole males and evenfemale cats at times. It is caused by an imflammation of a sebaceous gland right above the cats tail. You can see it here:

www.fabcats.org/acneandstudtail.html

If there is any sticky substance on your boy - clean it with a little dawn diswashing liquid. Then apply warm, damp compresses to the area - three times a day. These wil help even if it is not studtail but a inflammation of any kind.

Please let me know if it is or is not studtail and how your boy is feeling. If you have any further questions - I will be more than happy to help.

Very sincerely,

Terri
