Can a dog catch leptosporosis, one of the new strains, from eating a dead possum, raccoon, armadillo or heron? Our dog found something and rolled in it numerous times and probably ate it. Now he is losing his hair (the vet checked him for mange by scraping but saw no mites or other signs), panting badly in the heat, and drinkly a lot. The thirst is probably a result of the Prednisone that the vet gave him and he is still on, but the panting in the heat (not really that hot, just over room temperature) loks like a Shepherd we had that died of kidney failure after we gave him away, possibly leptosporosis.
