Polyp growth in a kittens throat
Sent to Cat Experts June 10 12:25 AM

Hello, I had found a kitten in the street a few months ago, she was bretahing a little funny and I thought she had a little cold due to living on the street in the cold New York City weather. I was talking to a neighbor and they were interested in giving her a home. I wanted her to go but I wanted to deal with her cold first. I took her to a vet and he put her on an antibiotic and it didn't help at all. I took her then to another vet and as soon as he heard her he said she has a throat polyp. I had never heard of that and asked a lot of questions, one was what are the odds that this can come back. He basically told me that polyps are rear and the chances of it coming back were a million to one. I paid a very large amount of money to have her polyp removed, which he showed me after her surgery and it was the size of a large grape, I couldn't believe that was in her throat because she was only about 4 months old and small. about a week after surgery she was doing okay although at times I could hear her breathing and called the vet and was told that was because she had stitches in there. well after a week she was ready for her new family and they fell in love with her, so she stayed. They have owned her now for about 4 weeks and yesterday they called me to let me know that they took her to their vet for a check up and that her breathing was getting louder and they thought it was her purring a lot well, their vet said right away her breathing is loud due to a polyp. They explained to their vet that she had just had one removed 4 to 5 weeks ago. They have a surgery scheduled to remove this polyp in few days. I feel terrible, I paid the large amount of money because I wanted to give her to her new family healthy and with a clear conscience. Now since the polyp is back so fast maybe she has a cronic problem and what if every 5 weeks it's back. My question is.....is it possible my vet didn't remove it? or maybe left some of the polyp in there? or how common is it to grow back this fast? and what are the odds that after a second polyp removal she may get a third or fourth? I called my vet today, he said what may have happened was there may have been a smaller second one that he missed, and my response was if there was a
second one I paid an awful lot of money for you to have missed it. Then he said look you gave her away, she is someone elses problem so let them deal with it. But, I feel it is still my problem because, first of all we had fallen in love with this kitten too and her well being is very much an interest of mine, also, since I live 3 doors down from these people I have to face them after now giving them a kitten that is going to cost them a lot of money. I just need the re occurance rate of them growing back and in 4 to 5 weeks how common is that? I would like any and all information you can provide to me about throat polyps. I really appreciate you taking the time to respond to me. Thank you!!
