Recently, about a week ago, I found my pet cockatoo, a Goffin, with a serious eye infection, and rushed her to the vet. He even commented that she was one sick bird. She wouldn't eat, and had a very swollen left eye, which appeared to have a white mass on the eye. The very next day, she began with a similar white spot in the right eye. At first I thought she might have been bitten by our other cockatoo, but did not find any signs of bite marks or redness, as if from a scratch. The vet was also mistified. Anyway, he gave her an injection, and sent me home with Baytril injectible and Gentocin Opthalmic drops, to be given twice a day. It appears that she is getting better, but that left eye still appears slightly swollen, plus the lens still does not look good. The right eye seems to have cleared up though. I am wondering if there is some eye drop I could use to help lubricate the eye, as we live in Arizona, where it is extremely dry. We have been keeping a heat lamp on her, as she shivers without it, but is gaining some strength every day. Our vet is not available on the weekends, and I would appreciate any advice you might be able to offer. Thanks so much. Rae Wolf
