Customer (name blocked for privacy):waiting for answer to my question
Dr. Debbie:Hello, I wasn't sure you were there.
Dr. Debbie:You have a couple options to get the matt off
Dr. Debbie:Probably the safest is to let a groomer or your veterinarian remove it
Dr. Debbie:But if you want to try it at home
Dr. Debbie:you can either use beard trimmer type clippers that won't cut the matt
Dr. Debbie:or you can spray with detangler and use a dematting comb you can buy at the pet store.
Customer (name blocked for privacy):Any other suggestion like baby oil on the mat?
Dr. Debbie:No the oil will make it harder to remove
Dr. Debbie:If you think it is possible to comb out the mat either use hair conditioner or detangler spray (for kids)
Dr. Debbie:but alot of times the mat is not able to be straightened out
Dr. Debbie:and you have to clip underneath it.
Dr. Debbie:Don't use sciessors, though, because that will cut their skin.
Dr. Debbie:Either clippers or the comb won't cut them.
Dr. Debbie:Do you have any more questions about this?
Customer (name blocked for privacy):If I get the cat a lion cut does the vet have to sedate the cat?
Dr. Debbie:Only in some cases. They usually give it a try and if the cat won't allow it then sedation is sometimes used.
Dr. Debbie:Not without permission, though.
Dr. Debbie:You could try a groomer first.
