My cat, a 7 year old Calico, has been scratching the area between the eyes and ears so much that she not only has hair loss, but it is red and sore. She meows painfully when she scratches it. I don''t see any fleas on her there.I''ve had her since she was a kitten and she has never done this before. She''s never had any shots because she''s never been sick. Does she just need a flea bath? (never had a bath, either!) I''m putting Neosporin on it but it doesn''t seem to be helping. She seemed to have lost her appetite a bit last week but she''s making up for it this week, so I guess that''s a good sign. What might this be? Thanks in advance...I

HI the amount of itching sounds like either mange or fungus. Both of which can be contagious to people.
She will need to go to the vet for medication. This is not something you can fix with OTC stuff, unfortunately.
No matter where you live, she should have vaccines (at least for feline distemper and rabies) This is important for her health and really important b/c if she ever bit or scratched a child and she was not current on rabies, the state would have the right to take her and put her to sleep to test her for rabies. I know this is very unpleasant, but better to hear it now and avoid the heartache. I have seen this happen and honestly, as a vet, it broke my heart!

Please get her to the vet for meds and 2 vaccines!

I sincerely hope this helps!
