Attacking Cat

First off, let me tell you about Avalanche. Avalance is about 12 years old and was adopted by my older sister, he lived in a large home with several other cats. My sister then moved out with her two other cats and left Avalance in the large home. Noone was living in the home but we paid people to come feed him twice a day. The house recently had mold and avalanche needed to move out. Let me mention this. Avalance SPRAYED even though he was nuetured. He went to a boarding house for about 3 months, he spraying STOPPED. My Fiancee and I decided since he really had no where to go and we didnt want him to leave a life of solitare or give him to strangers, we kept him. He is now a very well behaved kitty BUT he is attacking my youngest cat, Ginger. Ginger is a well mannered female cat. She tends to stick her head in his face (she does this with her older sister (not by blood) and her sister, Dutchess, likes her ears) I suppose she wants him to lick her. Well, the fighting is getting fairly bad. Avalance will have Ginger's fur in his mouth and Ginger will SCREAM her head off. I don't want to push Avalanche into spraying again and I also feel bad if I put him in a room. What Can I do? Am I not giving them enough love? He is also attempting to do this with Dutchess.
Thank you
Erica

He sounds like he is more of an only cat type. Because of his age he may not want the attention of the other cats. He may have had more room in the other house so he didn't have to interact with the other cats. There is a product called Feliway that is supposed to ease some cats aggression, it might be worth a try. You would need to ask your vet to get it for you. You might also try a communal catnip party and see if that settles him any. Otherwise you may need to give him his own space that he doesn't have to share with the girls.

Reply to Animal Eyes's Post: Thank you for your answer. Avalanche is put in a seperate room at night which he stays for about 8 hours. He foucses mainly on bothering Ginger. He likes to sneak up on her and just bother her. We have tried the Feliway before when he sprayed and it never worked for him. Do you think anything else would work?

The other option would be to try using a behavior modifying medication. You should talk to your vet and see what they recommend for him. There are a couple of different ones to choose from so since your vet has a history with him it would be better for them to decide which would be best. It would probably be a good idea to have some bloodwork done prior to starting any medication. One of these may take the edge off of him.
