Question

My kitty has a sick tummy....

Sent to Cat Experts July 16, 2005 5:43 p.m.

I have a cat whose female, 13 and spayed. She has a past history of hyperthyroidism which was cured by radioactive iodine uptake approx. 2 3/4 years ago. Now my cat is vomitting white foamy spit and hasn't eaten much in 2 days. What could be wrong with her? It's been very hot here in New York. (maybe the heat?) My cat is an indoor cat.

You should be very worried. Any time that a cat won't eat for more than 48 hours, you are in serious trouble. Their liver can fail and then the cat can die. It is called hepatic lipidosis where the liver thinks it is being starved and starts "grabbing" fat cells...and actually ends up killing the liver.

I suggest that you see the vet first thing tomorrow for a full exam and possibly bloodwork to find out what's going on.

Let me know if you still have questions.

Hi,

She has been eating little bits of food. Not the same quantity that we are used to seeing her eat. That is what I meant by "not eating much" Do you think I should still call our vet in the morning? The last time she was like this he had us give her 1/4 a tablet of pepsid every 12 hours until she was acting normally again. That seemed to work and we've tried that again. Today Nutmeg seems perkier and acting normally, just eating small amounts.
