Your kitty is old enough to use Advantage or Revolution. These are applied topically at the base of the skull once monthly.
Until you are able to purchase one of these products, you can bathe the kitten in a flea shampoo that is safe for kittens his age. Be careful to avoid getting any soap/shampoo in his eyes.
Part of the flea problem is on your pet (about 5%) the rest is in your home in the form of flea eggs and larvae. How long have you had the baby?
If it has been over a couple of weeks, rest assured the fleas, eggs and larvae are in your home. The topical applications will prevent the fleas from having a host, however, they still can get a "free meal" by biting you.
If the little kitten has been in your home for a week or longer, you may want to look into getting an exterminatior or purchasing flea foggers for a do-it-yourself job.
Don't forget to watch for tapeworms. If your cat has fleas, he can get tapeworm. You will find them on his butt or in his bedding and they will look similar to grains of rice. If you do notice them, take him into the vet for a shot of dewormer.
Is there anything else you need to know?
