Question

My daughter and her room mate just adopted two kittens.

Sent to Cat Experts October 18, 2006 2:43 p.m.

My daughter and her room mate just adopted two kittens. They have a litter box in the bathroom. One of the kittens is using the litter box but is also pooping in the corner of the living room. I have never seen a kitten do this. What should she do?

They really need a total of THREE litter boxes for these babies - one for each kitten and an extra as many cats will not urinate and deficate in the same box for some reason. Also, in at least one of the boxes use a litter called Cat Attract. It is a bit more expensive than regular scooping litter but can turn a cat around in a day. She also needs to clean the spot in the livingroom with an enzymatic cleaner such as Zero Odor (www.zeroodorstore.com). This will remove all smells and hopefully dissuade the kitten from going in the wrong place in the future. Also, if she can set something in the corners temporarily, this will also help. She may want to confine the kitten to the litter box room for a while after eating to encourage litter box usage and discourage carpet soiling. Please let me know if I can help further.
