Hi- for the last 2 days our 9mo old kitten has been having bowel trouble. Poop is very runny and what is coming out is almost a clear slime. She is still eating and drinking but is not as active as usual. She is still approaching us for attention and purring. However, she is not playing much. could you tell me what MAY be going on with our kitten? Also she is an indoor kitten only

I am not sure; I do know that she stays pretty clear of people food. What really bothers me is that on thursday, we had pest control out and the stuff they use is non toxic to animals After it dries; she is real shy around strangers so she won't come out for a while after strangers have been here. but what if she eats a cricket or bug that's been affected by the spray. Also, I was dog-sitting up to thursday for my parents dog. She was into the dog's food; But I thought the dog food would have been out of her system by now + we had the dog for a whole week.

Dear friend,

It is much more lkely that the dog food irritated her intestins and caused an upset. Pst control is very careful about using products that are dangerous to domestic animals. Even if she ate a sprayed insect it would not cause such an issue. You can give her a half teaspoon of kayopectate or pepto bismal to settle her stomach. Also one teasoon of plain yogurt every day to put "good" bacteria back in her system. You can give her unflavored pedialyte if she gets dehydrated one dropper every ten minutes every other hour.

If the diarrhea continues into tomorrow, feed her a light diet to rest her insides - only boiled chicken with no fat or Gerber chicken baby food with no garlic or onion seasoning. The fact that she is eating is a sign that she is not feeling too bad. Just keep any ey on her for and symptoms of abdominal pain.

PLease let me know how she is feeling and if you still have questions. I will help in any way possible.

Very sincerely,

Terri
