ONE KITTEN IN A LITTER OF THREE WAS BORN WITH WHAT LOOKS LIKE A HEMANGIOMA. IT IS ON THE KITTEN'S FOREHEAD. THE MOTHER OF THE KITTEN LICKS THAT AREA TILL IT BLEEDS LIKE CRAZY. THIS LITTLE GUY IS ABOUT 6 WEEKS OLD AND IS ONLY ABOUT 12 OUNCES. HAS FINALLY STARTED EATING SOME GOOD CANNED FOOD AND KMR FROM A BOTTLE. HOPEFULLY HE'LL FILL OUT QUICKLY. IN THE MEANTIME, DO YOU THINK THIS GROWTH (RED AND THICK) WILL REQUIRE SURGERY?IT LOOKS BAD. what could it be??

If you haven't you should get this kitten checked by your vet. It could be that the skull didn't develope completely and this may be a direct route into the skull. It sounds like the fluid from the brain area and this type of malformation may not be able to be repaired. Getting him checked will at least give you more information about what to do with this kitten. The fact that he is eating better is definitely a good sign.

Reply to Animal Eyes's Post: He, along with the other two kittens in the litter were c-section. At the time, the vet said she had no idea what "it" was on his forehead. I'm trying to do my own research at this point. I have never seen anything like it. It definitely is not brain fluid. The skull is in tact. He's as cute and sweet as can be but this red "thing" is so ugly.

Ok well thats good about the skull. It may be a birthmark, although this is not common. If you can keep him away from mom now would probably be better so she doesn't keep opening it up. Not knowing what the cause is of the growth,(for lack of a better word) is would make it hard to decide if it can be removed surgically. You will probably have to let him grow a little more before making that kind of decision. It could be a blood vessel that has grown incorrectly and creates this bubble. It might be able to be tied off when he is a little older if that is the case and if it is not attached to something critical.
