My kitten had a scratch on her eye he she was 2 weeks old and her third eyelid closed and has never opened. She is now 3 months old and she has a clear liquid coming from her eye and a very dirty ear. Should I be concerned about the liquid and problems in the future?

Reply to Terri Riba's Post: We took her to the vet 2 weeks after scratch happen because the cornea was ulcerated. She was placed on antibiotics and and eye cream. We were told she could live a productive life with only one eye or she could have surgery to remove the third eyelid. The third eyelid is completely covering the eyeball.

Dear friend,

It is true that a cat can live just fine with one eye. Cats are not vain like people and adapt very well to handicaps. Of course she should always be kept indoors. The problem you are facing now is infection. The clear liquid can be caused by an ifection that could be very serious. It can even become life threatening. She needs another round of antibiotics. Make sure it is clavamox as that is the best for eye issues. A steroid can reduce swelling and posssibly get the third eyelid to recede. If possible, have your kitten seen by a veterinary orthomologist. That specialist would be the best choice to treat this properly.

The ear you can just treat with oticleans yo can get at a pet supply.

Please let me know how your baby is doing and if you have more questions. I will be happy to help in any way possible.

Very sincerely,

Terri
