sick kitten

Sent to Cat Experts August 29 01:19 AM

I have a 10 week old kitten. I've had him a week. The 1st 4 days he was fine, but for the last 3 days he will eat very little, only around 2 bites of food a day. He's still drinking water. He doesn't want to play, he sleeps all day, and his stool is like water and green. He has been to the vet 2x & the vet can't find anything wrong, he has no temp, nothing in his stool to suggest a parasite. Any ideas what might be wrong?

Reply to Lori's Post: I've fed him Iams dry kitten food and Iams wet food. The vet gave me Hills prescription diet wet food and I've been trying that out today. He still doesn't want to eat it, but I've been giving it to him with an oral syringe. I've also been giving him KMR, also through oral syringe. The vet did do a fecal culture, I don't know what he checked for, but he said he didn't find anything in his sample. For his shots, from what I can tell on the sheet that was given to me by the pet shop, it looks like Fellocell CVR was given on 08/18. The vet I took him to also put him on Fenbendaz 0.60 milliliter orally for 5 days and he's had 3 days of that and there has been no change. Hope this helps.
I'm leaving to go to a different vet now, I don't know how long we will be gone, I will check my e-mail as soon as we get back to see if you have any more questions.

I would try him on a bland diet of Gerber Chicken Baby Meat or Turkey and see if he will eat that on his own. He definitely needs something in the tummy that will stay there. You might go to the health food store and get some slippery elm and acidolphilus powder to add to his food to help bind him up. Also, benebac or plain unflavored yogurt will put good bacteria into this gut that is necessary to process food and form stool. I would take him off of the dry food totally until this is cleared up because he needs as much moisture in him as possible to prevent dehydration and maybe add pedialyte to the mix rather than his regular water. If push comes to shove, it could be an enzyme difficiency and adding a product called Prozyme to his diet may take care of the problem all together. You can order it at www.revivalanimal.com. Other than checking all of the above, including a check for giardia and coccidia, I'm unsure what else it could be. Let me know if any of the above helps.
