I have four, five week old kittens. The mother keeps taking the smallest kitten not even by the scruff of the neck but by the throat or cheek. She is jumping with the kitten in her mouth over a three foot box that we have at the top of our stairs to keep them on our second floor. Is she trying to hurt or get rid of him?

Hello,

Sounds like your guess is correct. I believe the mother is alienating this kitten from the rest, due to it being underdeveloped or another illness.

Does the kitten have hair? Does it look like the other?

I would continue to put the kitten back with Mom if you can and continue to do so to see if the kitten will nurse. If it is underdeveloped and the mother will not nurse it, you can bottle feed it yourself and put it in a box or laundry hamper with towels and a heating pad on very low.

I hope this helps. If you need more information, please feel free to contact me.

I don't know how it happened but my question was answered by two people. The kitten is five weeks old and if it was not feeding it would probably not be alive. I was able to get my questions answered by another memeber of your service and paid for it. THe bed I had in the kitten room did not fit the mother so she could not lay with it, this was upsetting her.
