Dear friend,

This is not a normal action for a kitten. If he has feces stuck in his rectum he may have an obstructed bowel. See if you can VERY CAREFULLY insert a retal thermometer with a little vaseline and help loosen it. Give him some cows milk to drink. If constipation is a chronic problem with this baby - do not feed him any dry cat food - feed canned only and add a teaspoon ever day of canned pumpkin (not pie filling). You can also give him a quarter teaspoon of mineral oil three times a week to keep his bowels moving.

If you cannot get him to go and he continues to cry you will have to have him seen in the ER because it would indicate something abnormal is going on here like an obstruction, deformity or even the ingestion of a non food item like string, thread, etc. If you see any such item DO NOT TRY TO PULL IT - JUST GET HIM TO A VET!!! If it is wrapped around his intestine pulling it can kill him.

Please get back to me and let me know what is happening. I will be here til 10.00 pm EDT and be happy to help you.

Very sincerely,

Terri

You are very welcome! I am happy to help. Rub some vaseline on the outside of his rectum. Let me know if he is able to have a BM after you give him some milk and/or mineral oil.
