(Not a Cat Question?)

My one year old kitten has had diarrhea for 2-3 days

Sent to Cat Experts June 15 06:54 AM

My one year old kitten has had diarrhea for 2-3 days now. She hasn't been fixed yet, eats Purina One for hard food and Friskies (various flavors) for soft food. We have another cat thats about 3 years old and isn't showing any signs of ill health. The young one seems to be losing a little weight and is starting to be a little lethargic. She is an angora cat so its hard to tell by looking if sh'e lost weight, but picking her up he feels on the bony side. I realize the weight loose and being a little lathargic is most likely be a byproduct of having diarrhea, but since she's had it for a few days now what do we do

You need to try feeding a bland diet of cooked rice and/or boilled chicken or beef for the next 1-2 days to see if you can get the diarrhea under control. Also try to feed her some pedialyte to help cut down on the dehydration which sounds as though has started. If she continues to have the diarrhea you would need to have her seen so they can do a fecal test and exam to determine the cause behind the diarrhea as it could be an internal parasite or bacterial related. If she does not respond to the bland diet you need to have her seen as soon as possible.
