cat belongs to a mentally challenged young woman i know. she is so worried but has no money to take her cat to the vet at this time. i thought her cat had actually rolled in something at first, but it is really the color of her skin.(ears and lips anyhow, i couldn't see her underside well enough, long hair and i was worried i was hurting her.Bubbles is her name.) i would like to help more but am actually feeding 15 cats and 1 dog at this time myself. people are dropping them at my house! one of my own cats is geriatric and has feline aids that i fear i am not caring for properly since all the additional neutering and spaying ive been doing lately. i am just a child care provider, which is how i know this young lady(24), i care for her younger siblings who are on a subsidized program which is how i am paid. ofcourse, my paycheck is late. i'm sure she should go to the vet, but can't find anything about yellowing anywhere as of yet. i just learned of this today. bubbles has been this way a few days i suspect, at least. adult in home has too many other problems at this time (a 11 year old in the home who is suicidal and / or just devious). she is sent to loma linda on a regular basis lately for being absolutely hateful and then ending her outbursts/acts by saying she wants to kill herself, thereby not having to answer for her antics. she gets the attention and is excused. however just 2 days ago loma linda would not accept her again. this time the child said she really wasn't suicidal(which is the only way to get in, they are on welfare.) they have a younger brother with asthma who used to get alot of attention everytime he would be in the hospital. anyhow, could she have hurt the cat? she does not get along with the young lady (her older sister who owns the cat) at all. they live in the same house and the 11 year old has broken into her locked room (where the cat stays most of the time). the mother of this home can't think of any toxins that the cat could have had any contact with including plants/ antifreeze or rodent poien. they are heavy smokers but she swears it is only outside now.(asthmatic boy hasn't been hospitalized for almost 2 years now, so i do believe this a little, also because when i drop off the younger kids (10 year old twins),i don't smell smoke in their new home of 4 months. thank you very much, angie hutchins

Unfortunately when a cats skin turns yellow it is usually from liver failure. Once it gets to that point there is usually not much that can be done. Needless to say, the cat needs to see a vet so if it is in liver failure and nothing can be done it can be humanely euthanized and not left to suffer a horrible death. You may want t contact your local vets office and see if they would be willing to work out anything at least for an exam to confirm this. You can also try getting help from your local ASPCA. Ask them both if there are any sort of programs available due to the circumstances you have told us. Sometimes people will donate money to the vet clinic for needy people who have emergencies like this. You may want to inquire about that possibility. Good luck. Take a look at this link and scroll down to hepatic lipadosis and you'll read about a yellow cat and liver failure

Reply to Joni's Post: dear joni, thank you very much! i can't believe how fast that was and this late on a friday night! i printed your reply so i have proof of the seriousness of this and will try to help this lady with her very treasured pet.the news was grim but suffering is my ultimate fear and hopefully she will listen to your words, i think she actually will respond to the words "suffer a horrible death", as sad as it is to hear, and be able to accept what a vet says in person tomorrow easier, if that is the way it must go. when i was a child they wanted to put my horse down, my parents let me refuse..., to this day i have a hard time living with the fact that he did suffer, very much. i will send more money when i can, you are very appreciated, i'm sorry i can't do more now.thank you also for the advice about programs. will check into it now and get bubbles to a vet tomorrow, top priority- one way or another. thank you again..i had no idea you were here, just stumbled across this site. great to know you are here. angie hutchins

You don't need to send more money just please press the accept button so I can get paid my percentage of what you have already deposited. I wish I had better news and I wish I could say you may find out different tomorrow from the vet but I would be very surprised.
