Sent to Cat Experts July 03 10:32 AM

I have a cat that is 12 years of age and 6 months ago, began an on going problem of gas and diahrea, though not showing any other signs of sickness. His diet is from a vet prescribed.....any ideas?

The most common cause of gas and diarrhea is a parasite problem. Even if your cat does not go outdoors, this is a consideration.

You should take a fecal sample to your vet to have it checked.

At this age, you have to consider all problems to be a big deal because there is a lot that can go wrong with an older cat.

Let me know if you still have questions. I would be happy to tell you what I know.

Reply to Tammy Falkner's Post: Tammy,

I feel some certainty in your answer....Thurman(cat) has been to 3 different vets here in the Smoky Mtns and they all say something different. Cancer has been ruled out by all three from x rays and etc...and as I said he still romps, and plays and shows no signs of illness. They keep leading me to IBS.....which I dont believe he has. He has always been on a good diet prescribed by a vet. Since this condition he has been on Science Diet ID, WD, you name it....I have even ordered food from a health food store...any idea as to the type of parasites or how he could have obtained them? Drinking from toilet water? though flushed I have often wondered..as he is an indoor cat and doesnt get outside..........Thanks, Bob
