Question

Missing Cat

Sent to Cat Experts August 09, 2006 7:44 p.m.

My indoor Siberian cat has disappeared, and I am worried that he gotten out of the house. He is 2 years old, and has never been outside. This is my first cat, so I am looking for advise on how best to locate him, and what he is likely to do if he did get out. He has been missing for two days. We have a large back yard, semi rural, lots of big trees, and roads near by. I have put kitty litter, food, and a blanket with his smell in the basement should he be there, I have put food and one of his blankets outside the back door.

Thank

Maybe he didn't get out. If there's more than one person available to do this, it'll go a lot faster

Look into spots in your home that you might not normally suspect. Dryers, dishwashers, closet shelves, showers, cabinets, drawers and behind everything - no matter how small.

In the yard search in/under cars, on top of the tires (we've actually found a few of them nestled there when helping others find escapees), garages, pipes/drains/sewers, etc..

Get a really smelly cat food and while everyone is staying very quiet, open it (doesn't matter if it's a can or packet) and quietly wait a few minutes. Hopefully the smell will draw him out of his hiding space - or cause him to meow to let you know he can't open the door (we find them in cabinets a lot too!).

When you look in cabinets or drawers, be sure to look to the very deepest, darkest back of them and under things.

Also look UP into the underside of beds and furniture (we've pulled many out from these things - even when it looks like the material covering the springs or frame hasn't been torn or disturbed).

Make phone calls to local animal rescue orgs with his description and your location. Talk to neighbors (ask them to help). Call your animal control (city and/or county) offices to find out if someone picked up what looked like a stray cat today.

Please let me know if you find him (and where) ok? Or if there is anything else I can do! I really care.

He is new to this house (has been here a week and is skittish already), but has been venturing out and exploring the house. He has no collar, as he seems to always get them off. Also cleaning lady is coming tomorrow will that help or harm the cause. He is terrified of the vacumm cleaner. Thanks.

I think he'll just appear, probably tonight or by morning (but that doesn't mean you should stop your efforts).

The cleaning lady might just uncover his hiding spot! Just make sure she knows to guard the doors and not leave any open to the outside for even a few seconds (and to pay attention).

Again, keep your efforts up, but also keep your hopes up. Cats are amazing at hiding! Keep me up to date ok? I pray for good news Images available only to Customers.

Thanks for your help. The smelly cat food I think lured him out of the basement. I was really glad to find this service.
