Question

Kitty Hair

Sent to Cat Experts April 04, 2005 12:35 a.m.

Why does my cat chew and eat the hair around it’s tail? Her coat is VERY soft and fluffy, she takes very good care of it, but for the last few months, on and off, she eats away at the top of her back/butt area and the bottom of her tail. She doesn't pull it out, she bites it off, to about 1/8 inch. She is 3 yrs old, always been an inside cat, never spayed or declawed, and has been on frontline for the last 8mos. Oh please help poor naked butt cat!

Thanks Nikki

Have you ever seen any fleas or flea dirt on her?

Thanks for your time-

She had fleas about 8mos ago, that is why we put her on frontline. She tore up the area around her neck. We took her to our vet and he put her on a oatmeal shampoo, which worked like a charm. I am positive she does not have fleas now. I am pretty sure this is not a skin irritaion issue...but looking for any sort of answer.
