Sad cat

Ive had my cat for about 2 1/2 years now. I got him when he was 7 weeks old and I was living in NC. A few months after that I moved back to my parents house in PA where we’ve lived for the last 2 years. They had another cat and 2 dogs. About a month ago they sold the house and we all moved to florida, but seperately (I got my own house again). Now its just me and the cat and he doesnt seem to be handling it well. He cries alot and isnt as active. I dont want to give my cat up, but my parents say he might be better with them at their house in FL with the other cat. Im going to start work soon and I hate to leave him alone. Hes my best friend and its breaking my heart that hes not happy. Should I get another cat to keep him company, or should I listen to my parents and take him back to them. Hes really attached to me though, and never really warmed up to them. I want to do whats best for him. I dont know what to do.

With time, the cat will adjust to the changes.  They grieve over losses much like people do.

I would give him some time to get used to being alone with you and then everything should return to normal.

If you feel comfortable with getting another pet, I would suggest that you visit your local animal shelter and adopt a buddy for him.

It could provide hours of fun and will help him not to feel so homesick.

Animals adjust well.  Feel confidant that your decision to move out on your own AND take your cat was a good one.

Congratulations and good luck!
