our cat seems to eat too fast or eat too much and she then vomits. How can we slow her down and get her to eat a little less. We just inherited her in August and she is a bit overweight from her previous owner, so of course we are also concerned about her weight and (per the vet) the tartar on her teeth.

You can try spreading her food out on a cookie sheet. This will make her slow down to eat since she will have to move around to get the pieces instead of just sticking her head in the bowl.
