(Not a Cat Question?)

destructive cat

Sent to Cat Experts December 04 02:09 PM

my cat has been dragging the dog’s water dish around the kitchen and upending it. how do I stop this? she's destructive! she rips the wallpaper off the walls, she chewed my glasses and i had to get them replaced ($200), she plays with the ashtray, she chewed a piece of my once beautiful hair off and i now wear a touque to bed (canadian, eh?). we love her because she really is a sweet cat. i think she should go outside but my husband disagrees. what should we do?

Reply to Olivers Mom's Post: thanks for getting back to me. Customer (name blocked for privacy) is 5 months old. i've had kittens before, but never one this destructive or crazy. she has no medical problems, but she's always been a high energy cat. as far as new behaviours, they started as soon as she was big enough to get into things, about 2 months ago. when she gets bored with one, she moves onto another. she's got more than enough toys to keep her occupied (you'd think). and she's always playfighting with the dog o they're snuggled up together. When we first got Customer (name blocked for privacy), she did go to the bathroom behind the TV and we broke that by keeping a very close eye on her and trying to grab her and bring her to the litter box before she got too far. but that was just a learning thing. do you think we should just try to keep on top of her until she knows what she's doing is wrong? also, do you think having her spayed will help her calm down? my husband and I always joke that she needs valium. she bounces off walls and sometimes growls at her reflection in the mirror ( we actually had to throw a towel over her once to calm her down). we let her name herself-Customer (name blocked for privacy). is there anything we can do about her and is this just a matter of learning right from wrong? Thanks
