Question

urination behavior problem

i have two male cats, brothers from the same litter. They are almost 4 years old. They have very different personalities; one is very laid back and snuggly and the other is more tense and is cuddly and affectionate on his own terms. They are both completely indoor cats and are both neutered. The more tense cat, Houdini, has been peeing on our bathroom floormats since he was a kitten. He also will occasionally pee in or on the side of a laundry basket whether or not there are clothes in it. We have tried almost every suggestion, multiple litter boxes, changing the litter, moving the boxes to a quieter location, deterrent sprays.... you name it, we tried it. This is consistent behavior for him, so I dont think it is a medical issue, unless it is one he has had since kitten-hood. He also will pee if there is a mat in front of the litter box. I dont know what to do, obviously punishment doesnt work and my husband is wanting to get rid of him. That is so not an option. Do you have any ideas

I know you said that he has been urinating out of his box for quite some time, but has he and his urine been checked recently?

Have you tried any behavior modification medications?

I took him to the vet to have him checked for diabetes, but the vet was unable to reach his bladder through his fat pouch. We just moved, and I havent taken him to another vet.
Part of Houdini's problem may be anxiety, we are military and my husband deploys for months at a time, the cats and I have moved back and forth, they have been left to stay with my grandmother for a few months, they have flown to italy and back to the states to my grandmothers again and now they are in texas with us. There is no way for me to aleviate the moving, so what could I do for him?
