I have a 9 year old cat that I am bringing in today to have checked for CRF; mostly do to the cat peeing outside the litter box. It also seems to have stools that are bloody. Sometimes there are drops of blood around very soft stools, and sometimes it is almost a gelatinous substance with blood, and very little fecal matter? Is there anything I should suggest my vet check for?

The other expert gave you great info on the urinary problem; but I see you have questions about the other issue specifcially. Bloody stool indicates the possibility of coccidia, giardia, clostridium or camphylobacter. Make sure you mention this to the vet. I would also let them pull a stool sample with a fecal loop in the office since a couple of the above can only be diagnosed with an extremely fresh (and that means minutes old) stool sample. I think it's great you caught this early. The vet will probably give you two antibiotics - one for the protazoan infection that I mentioned and the other for the urinary problem. Good luck

Reply to Lori's Post: How often do cats get urinary track infections? I have had her on antibiotics before, because that is what he thought it was. I also have had her on urinary track food for the last 7 years.
