Our cat got lose when we moved to a new house after 7 weeks a neighbor found him. He is skin and bones, its been 4 days and he is eating but does not seem to be gaining weight. He is happy but we are worried that he went so long between eating that he will not recover fully. What can we feed him to get some meat back on hiis bones?

Dear friend,

The best way to get him back to good health is to feed him very small meals very often which is basically what you are doing now. There is a high calorie canned cat food called science diet a/d but you can only get it at a vets office. Right now he needs as much protein as possible and really has no use for the fillers that are used to bulk up commercial cat foods. For the next few weeks boil chicken or fish for him. Feed him small frequent meals. You can suppliment with cat food but the uneccesary ingredients are just taking up room in his stomach that could be used to hold more protein. Also give him a daily vitamin suppliment containing Omega 3 fatty acids and taurine. It will take a few weeks before you actually see eveidence of his body filling out but it will happen. With your great care your boy should be fine.

Please let me know how he is doing. If you have any questions along the way I will always be here for you.

Warmest best wishes,'

Terri
