The most common food allergy in cats is corn and corn gluten. I always advise pet owners that have kitties with skin problems to try foods that do not contain corn such as Wellness, Innova or Felidae. If you are using flea products such as Revolution or Frontline, the vast majority of skin conditions are related to food. Please let me know if I can assist further.

Reply to Lori's Post: Yes I use revolution on the cats. I have switched food. From 9-lives to Science Diet. Is The Science Diet ok? My cat had little pimples on his ears and nose. The vet gave me the antibiotic drops to use for about three weeks. the worse of the break out as subsided. Though there are a few still on his nose. The change in diet seems to be better. The foods you reccommend for cats I can't find.

Science Diet is a good product; however, it contains corn - and lots of it. See if you can find Innova, Felidae, California Natural or Wellness in your local pet supply store. You can also go to www.petfooddirect.com and browse through their dry food to see which ones contain corn or corn gluten. There are others besides what I listed above. If you look on the Science Diet Bag-corn is at the top of the list. You can also order food online. Petsmart has a new brand of food (I think it's called Blue Spa) that is also corn-free. There are a ton of them out there, it's just a matter of label reading. The Science Diet is much better nutrionally than 9 Lives and if you feel the antibiotics have helped, then maybe you don't want to change foods. If you do change, do it gradually, by adding a little of the new food to his existing Science Diet and each day add more of the new and less of the SD until he's eventually changed over. Sudden diet changes can cause diarrhea. Please let me know if I can help with anything else!
