my 6 month old cat had an injection today of Depo Medrol at the vet today, ever since we came home this afternoon all she wants to do is sleep, is this a normal side effect?

Hi Jaime,

Depo is a steroid. It can make her sleepy but she should be feeling better and eating.

Is she eating? drinking - pottying?
Why did she receive a steroid?

Thanks,

Terri

she got the shot because of a patch of fur that she scratched off the other day, the vet said this would help her from itching and scratching. She ate and drank earlier this afternoon, and went to the bathroom, but for the past few hours shes been sleeping, she opens her eyes looks around and goes right back to sleep.

Dear Jaime,

Your vet must feel the patch is Miliary Dermatitis which you can see here:

www.sniksnak.com/cathealth/mil-derm.html

Or a granuloma:

http://www.marvistavet.com/html/body_eosinophilic_granuloma.html

As long as she ate and drank and pottyed since she got the shot she should be Ok. One shot should be sufficient to resolve this. You can also put neosporen on it three times a day.

Let me know how she is later tonight and tomorrow morning. If you need me I will always be here for you.

Sincerest best wishes,

Terri
