Hello,

Thank you for sending your question to Just Answer?

If you do not have your cat on a good flea control program such as Advantage Plus or Frontline Plus, this would be the first thing you definetly need to do. You may not see fleas, but believe me they are there and flea eggs too!

You can purchase the Advantage (I prefer Advantage over Frontline) Plus at Petco and PetsMart in quantities that are applicable to your cat's weight. You need to be sure to reapply each 28 days to avoid fleas returning.

For the areas that she has been scratching, it would be a good idea to clean the area with an antibacterial solution such as Betadine and then apply an anti-itch/antibacterial cream on the area. She will try to lick her paw and get it off, so you will have to reapply small amounts through the day. The main thing is to clean the area until you see it start to heal.

I hope this helps. If you need further information, please feel free to contact me.

Hello,

Fleas can be embedded in your carpet or furniture so you do need to provide the Advantage for all your cats. You can buy it over the counter at Petco or PetsMart.

You can also buy an anti/itch and/or antibacterial cream at these two stores as well. Also, be sure to pick up a small bottle of Betadine Solution to clean the areas first. Note: It will stain your hands for a while if you don't use gloves, but it is not dangerous to you or your skin. You can put it on a sponge and rub on and then clean off with a wet towel. Let it dry thouroughly, and then apply the cream.

All of the products can be bought over the counter. If the scratching does continue, you may be dealing with a cat allergy, however I would start with the flea program and treating the area as described above.

I hope this helps. If you need further information, please feel free to contact me.
