my cat has asthma. can I give her anything over the counter for her congestion? the medicine from the vet is expensive.

There are no medications over that counter that are safe to give cats with asthma. Actually, most over the counter medications are toxic to cats. Your veterinarian can dispense prednisone or write a script for this for you to pick up at your local pharmacy if her asthma is flaring up. Prednisone is a very cheap anti-inflammatory commonly used to treat asthma flares in cats.
