Hi Garland-
Usually, when a cat stops using the litter box there is one of three reasons for it. One you eliminated right off the bat and that is stress. The vast majority of the time there is a medical problem that is causing this. Given your girl's age, I would imagine she may have a few age-related issues that may need checking into, and I'll bet she also has a urinary tract infection. Fortunately, this can be cleared up in most instances with a vet check and antibiotics for 7-14 days.
If everything checks out at the vet, believe it or not, sometimes cats decide that one toilet isn't enough for them and they need one to urinate in and one to deficate in. Purchase a second box and in that box use a litter called Cat Attract. It is a little more expensive, but it will definitely help with this problem. It's effective in about 80% of the cats that it's used with.
I'm relatively certain that if you do the 2 things above, you'll find the problem and get it fixed quickly. Cleaning the soiled areas with an enzymatic cleaner is also important, so make sure to keep that up.
