Baffled by "stuff" on bathroom mirror

I brought a new cat home on Saturday. For now he is kept in a medum sized bathroom. He is extremely shy and very nervous. When I go in to the bathroom the large mirror behind the counter has a coating on it. I could tell he has been on the counter around the sink, hair everywhere! It doesn't smell like urine and doesn't have a distinct ot potent smell. What could it be? He is neutered. I'm baffled????
