cats watery eyes

I've recently noticed that my oldest cat has very watery eyes. She squints as if she has something in her eye but I can't detect anything. There is no puss or redness but a slight cloudyness over her eye. I've tried to flush them out with water thinking that would help but it didn't seem to. Money is tight right now and a visit to the vet looks to be in the distant future. Is there anything that I can do at home to help her out.
