Cat in distress!

My friend had her cat spayed one week ago. The insistion site has had two stitches come out and it is very swollen, red and sore to the touch. It has a hole in the middle of it and has pus coming out of it. It also has a lump the size of a marble(and hard as one too)at the end of it(toward the tail). her vet(not the vet, a tech) told her to put peroxide on it and not to worry about it unless the cat is not eating or hides. The cat eats one or two bites and walks away very slowly. If you touch it the cat hisses and tries to pull away. I told my friend to get it to a vet now and not to wait until the cat hides. She told me it was her cat and to butt out because her vet knows what he is doing. I would agree with this if the vet had seen the cat but he has not and the techs really don't know what they are doing in this clinic. What should she be doing for this cat?

Dear Terry,(with a y)

This cat may have a serious complication called a seroma or an infection and should be seen by a veterinarian ASAP. She is obviously in pain, may have a fever and could even die as a result of this. However, I have found that it is often very difficult to convince people once they have made up their mind so you have your work cut out for you.

Let me know if there is any way I can help.

Very sincerely,

Terri (with an i)
