How old is your cat?
Where did the discharge come from?
Is she eating and pottying normally?

She is almost 5 years old and I assume that it came out of her butt but am unsure she never has been a big eatter and I haven't noticed a change in her eatting habits or potty habits, however she was constantly cleaning her butt this morning. I just srrived home from work and she seems to be fine no lack of energy or out of character actions.

Dear friend,

This can be only impacted anal glands which is not serious. Any vet or groomer can express them. However, if your girl is not spayed this can be a dangerous uterine infection called pyometra.
since she seems fine and is eating, drinking and pottying normally and has no fever it is probably just her anal glands. In the future add a teaspoon if canned pumpkin (not pie filling) to her canned food daily that wil add fiber and bulk to her stool and help her express the glands by herself. Of course if sh edeveloppes fever, lethargy or stops eating you will want to see your vet.

Please let me know how she is and if you still have questions. I wil be happy to help.

Very sincerely,

Terri
