indoor male cat with open sore

My cat (4 1/2 yr old indoor. neutered male) has developed an open sore on his belly. It seems to dry up and heal only to recur within a short period of time. This has been going on for about 2 weeks. I've kept it clean, but it seems to have spread-if that's possible- to his rear paw today. I've cleaned both areas and put an antibacterial treament on both areas and covered his foot so that he can't further irritate the area. Any ideas what this is? He hasn't been outside and we don't have any other pets. The only change in the household has been an ant problem with the high heat ( we live in the desert) and the use of Raid to get rid of them.

Dear friend,

If this is not responding to antibiotics - it may be fungal - like ringworm. Please look at these photos:
www.fabcats.org/ringworm.html

You can treat it with a fungicide like lamysil of conofite.

If it is not ringworm it could be staff which would require oral antibiotics you would get from your vet.

Let me know if it looks like ringworm and if you have any additional questions. I will be happy to help.

Very sincerely,

Terri
