I posted earlier about my cat having problems with mucus from his eyes and nose. I was told to buy pediatric drops for his nose and saline for his eyes. I went to the store and couldn't find regular saline solution; all I could find was sterile solution. What do I do? I'm really worried about him because his eyes have gotten to the point where he can't even open them and his vet appointment isn't until tomorrow. Is there anything I can do? And I am also wondering if this is fatal.

Sterile saline is fine for the eyes. Just dampen them and use a damp cloth to gently remove the gunk.

The brand name for the pediatric nasal drops is Neosynephrine, I think. It's just a pediatric nasal saline. Your pharmacist should be able to help you find it.

And, yes, resptiratory infections can be fatal if left untreated.

Reply to Tammy Falkner's Post: I know I keep bothering you but I am really worried about the cat. His eyes do okay for a few hours and then they return to the state they were in before. Also, I tried to give him the broth and the chicken but he wouldn't take it.

Sorry that I missed your last note. How is your cat doing now? Do you still need more help?

Reply to Tammy Falkner's Post: I took him to the vet today. He had lost 4 ounces since Friday so they put him into emergency care; they wanted to get fluids and medicine in him ASAP. The vet said it was an extreme upper respiratory infection. I'm hoping he comes out okay, he's only a baby (6-8 weeks). He'll be there for at least the next couple of days. Thanks for asking and helping.
