Kitty Valium?
Sent to Cat Experts October 31 12:28 PM

Our little rescued Persian won’t let me brush her
anymore, since the brushing has uncovered mats from
her
neglected past. She is still so truamatized by her
experiences that I don’t want to take her somewhere to
be putout and shaved. My husband and I would like to
just cut them off her at home amd we are wondering if
there is a kitty equivalent of Valium to relax her
enough so that we could just clip the mats and
dreadlocks off.

I advise highly against you trimming the matts yourself. Cat skin is very delicate and easily cut. I had advised a friend of mine that because she has a very mellow persian but she insisted and said she would be extremely careful and ended up nicking her 3-4 times. Its very easy to do even when you are experienced. Taking her into your vets and having them quickly shave the matts off is no more tramatic than you doing it yourself then having to take her in in the longrun to have area's sutured. Valium or another sedative will only take the edge off, not put her completely out and it may infact have the opposite effective as it does in some cats. Your vet would be your best bet to make her feel more comfortable.
Good Luck!
