Today I had to put my 7 year old cat to sleep. I couldn't afford to find out what was wrocg with him. Could you give me your best guess at what was possibly wrong with him? He constantly groomed himself to the point that he was raw, loosing hair, his ears and eyes were scratched and raw. His bottom was swollen and looked horrible. He was also loosing weight and had frequent hairballs.

I am so sorry for your loss. I feel that what was going on with your kitty could have been allergies or possibly mites. Allergies can cause the irritation that you were seeing and if bad enough could cause him to tear himself up like you were seeing. Mites can also cause the same symptoms. There are also several skin diseases that can show the same symptoms
