My 4 year old cat has been vomiting since early this morning. I noticed it when I woke up, 3 piles of mainly food. I worked all day and he doesn't appeared to have vomitted while I was away, but shortly after arriving home, he did it 3 more time in row, this time no food, just a little green liquid. He is also very calm and seditary, which is unusal for him. Does he need immeadate attention or can I take him to a vet in the morning if he still seems ill?

Dear friend,

Check the bag because somtimes a little mold can form on the bottom in this weather. Next check your boys mouth and tongue for any bad teeth, sores, non food items like thread, tstring, etc.The green liquid is bile and it means his stomach is empty. Do not try to feed him any more of that food . If you have a brand new bag - open that and see if he can eat it with no problem, You can also boil some chicken or fish and try that. Give him some plain pedialyte.

In a four year old vomiting can be caused by inpacted hair or stool, non food item, digestive upset, pancreatitis, upper respiratory or sinus or other infection. If you cannot get him to keep anything down it is advisable to have him seen so you can see what is going on with him.

Please let me know how he is and if you have more questions -, I am happy to help in any way possible.

Very sincerely,

Terri

Reply to Terri Riba's Post: You would recommend feeding him from a new bag and try to get him to drink tonight and if he does not improve, take him to see a vet tomorrow?

I would recommend trying to feed him and see if he can keep anything down at all - If he can't - I would err on the side of caution and have him seen tonight - especially if he chews non food items.

Right now he is vomiting bile and that means his stomach is empty. Do you have any idea what happened?

Reply to Terri Riba's Post: He doesn't usually eat much while I'm not home, so it doesn't surprise me his stomach is empty, but I don't know what could be irriating him. As far as I know, he hasn't eaten or drank anything out of the ordinary. I was moving furnature last night though and there was a lot of dust in the air, could that have an effect?

He seems really tired now but I will try to coax him to eat with some chicken, he loves that.

Thank you
Alyson

Reply to Terri Riba's Post: Well, he ate some of the chicken and a little food(I had an unopened bag on hand) and he started talking again.

as for non food items, i have no plants and he will eat other objects, but i try to be careful about that. also there's nothing in his mouth.

He seems to be keeping what he ate down. And he's walking around now, not just lying there.

Guapo and I thank you for your fast response.

That is wonderful!! It must have been that the food turned. Keep an eye on him tonight and feed him very small amounts at a time. If he does not vomit again he will be fine.

Sincerest best wishes,

Terri
