Hi

My name is Maria, and I have a female cat (Susi), who is 11 years old. Recently she started having difficulty breathing, and we took her to the vet. They found a large mass in the lobe of her right lung. It's a pretty large mass - about 75% of the entire lung. I was told that most likely it is cancer even though there is a possibility that it's granuloma or an abscess. I was supposed to come for the follow up appointment in a few days, but when I called it turned out that the vet moved out to another town all of the sudden. I am looking for a new vet now, but I am very worried that in the mean time the cancer will spred to the other organs and/or tissues. Can you please tell me how fast can the cancer spread in cats. It's been 2.5 weeks since the original visit to the vet.

Thank you very much in advance,
Maria

Hi Maria-

It's highly unlikely it has spread in 2 weeks; however, it is important that you get her to a new vet the first of the week so this can be taken care of. Don't ignore it as the only thing it will do is get worse and you don't want Susi to suffer! Please pick a new vet tomorrow and take her in. If you call your old vet's number, they should have left a forwarding number or contact information. It would be highly unusual for a vet to pack up a practice and leave town without assigning their practice to someone else. If they did, I would start from scratch and give the new vet as much information as you can. Good luck and let me know if I can help further.
