Today our 14 yr. old male cat was blood tested positive for FIV. His major symptoms to take to the vet on Friday was a noticable weight loss over the past 3-4 months. We learned today he went from 11.3# in Oct. to 9.0 today. He has been acting 'run down' and less energetic & less eating, & some hair loss. In the past he has had several bite incidents with neighbor cats though always treated by our vet. I found a new cat food at our petshop tonight, Precise Brand, canned and dry. I tried him on it and he ate well. Nice to see. I've located a Homeopathic vet nearby to contact tomorrow. Any suggestions and care tips and diet tips would be appreciated for our beloved, cat, Sawtooth Stanley.

poor Sawtooth...

Consider him a "Magic Johnson" of cats.

If you can help his immune system, feed him well, and treat any infections that may arise, he has the best chance of surviving. Ask the homeopathic vet about *interferon*.

This is a devastating diagnosis because it is so uncertain.

Did they do other blood work to look at his kidneys, thyroid, etc??

Reply to KittyVet's Post: Hello Dr. T.,
Thank you for your information. I'm not able to get the information you asked for until Wed. when my regular vet returns from Holiday away from her office.
As soon as I have the details of this blood work, I'll let you know. I've not used your site before so should I go ahead and respond next with 'I accept' so you get your payment? If so can I still continue with this information to you or do I start all over and pay again for your response about the blood work?
I have met a nurse today who described her cat from 4 years ago being diagnosed and is today a thriving healthier cat due, she believes, to her nutritional supplementation and variety of food she offered her cat. He had lost most of his hair, had infected toes that had been torn off, and eye discharge. She found a stray and got the diagnosis from a vet and proceeded to nurture him back to health. I feel encouraged to try this with my cat. Any suggestions?

Thank you,
Peggy Nervig, Seattle WA
