Hi,

Yes, these symptoms are serious and could indicate an upper respiratory infection, a tooth, gum or other oral problem, allergies, or a handful of other conditions. Your cat should be evaluated by a vet as soon as possible to find the cause of these symptoms and be prescribed treatment, if necessary.

This is especially important if your cat is very young or a 'senior', but in any case, s/he should really see a vet without delay.

I hope it's something minor which is easily treated.

Reply to Jessesmom's Post: Thank you for your reply. Although you have supplied a good answer, I already knew the information you gave. I was exspecting something a little more specific. Thank you anyway for your time and consideration. If you would like to know about my cat and my cat's situation you can read the following:
Name: James Ari Taylor
Age: Four months (>12 weeks)
Stray adopted from Animal control on 7/22/06
Vaccinations and procedures: Rabies, screened for worms, Feline leukemia test (negative results), Feline Panleukemia vaccine, neutered
Black Domestic Medium hair
Completely indoor cat
Allergies: unknown but I'm getting him tested
Lives with two other Indoor cats
Diet: Dry kitten food along with a vitamin/mineral supplement spray
Symptoms and behaviors: Constant nasal discharge, frequent sneezing, loss of fluids due to exstent of nasal and mouth (excess saliva) drainage, ears don't seem to be as alert to sounds as those of other cats, lays down a lot, has played (running around, chasing and being chased by my one year old cat) within the past 48 hours
Disposition: one of the most friendly cats I have ever come across, always wants to be near someone, lays on peoples laps until the people have to move, adores everyone
My thoughts: I have only had this kitten for about 3 days, but he is already so much a part of my family that his discomfort erks me and causes me much anxiety. I really hope he will be okay and that our veterinarian can help dissapate his discomfort.
