my cat has a pink rash on his belly; his fur has fallen out under his arms...and near his feet and belly area. it has not fallen out entirely, there is a light coat of fur, but it is not as thick as the rest of his body. his lack of fur there makes the pink rash that more visible. is this due to his cat food?

Dear friend,

What you are seeing on Miles sounds like Miliary Dermatitis and yes it can be caused by a food or other allergy. If you changed litter, used a new cleaner or carpet powder or anything of such nature you can see such a reaction. Please compare it to these photos.

The treatment of choice is one cortesone shot administered by a vet. That stops the itch/scratch cycle and allows the skin to heal and the fur to grow back. Of course if you find the offending g\\agent and remove it and apply neosporen it will eventually resolve on it's own. Do not let Miles lick any off.

Give him one teaspoon a day of plain yogurt to replace the "good" bacteria in his system. One daily drop of unsweetened (only) cranberry juice daily will lower the PH and acidity of his urine and blood. Also give him a vitamin suppliment with omega 3 fatty acids every day as well.

Please let me know how Miles is doing and if you have more questions. I will be happy to help in any way possible.

Very sincerely,

Terri
