My eight year old short haired cat has been shedding alot ...

My eight year old short haired cat has been shedding alot since Spring. I find chunks of hairs laying around my porch alot. He is an outside cat that has been neutered. Doesn't appear to feel bad or he is not acting sick or anything; It's just this terrible shedding. He is not itching or scratching alot, like from fleas, etc. either.
I've not changed his food either. He eats okay; Meow Mix-dry.
What do I need to do to help his shedding?
