Question

My cat has had a problem with diarrehea and vomiting.

Sent to Cat Experts June 18, 2006 10:20 a.m.

My cat has had a problem with diarrehea and vomiting. She's 13 yrs old. There were no parasites in her stools. The vet said she has developed a hyperthyroid. She has lost a lot of weight from throwing up and watery stools. She is on Methimazole for the thyroid. For the watery stools she is on Metronide (not sure of spelling) One minute her stools are becoming normal then they go back to watery again. I think the Metronide also makes her throw up. Is there anything else I can give her to help with the diarrhea. The smell is unbelieveable. She has not lost her appetite. In the morning she's meows until I give her her food. I give her Sheba because it doesn't seem to bother her as much as the Fancy Feast or Nine Lives. I need to put meat back on her bones. Thank you. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Dear friend,

This is most likely a result of bad bacteria in her system. All you have to do is go to a health store and buy a bottle of acidopholus tablets. Disolve one in 12 oz of water - give your girl one dropper a day for 30 days. Her stool should firm up in only four doses. Give her as much food as she wants right now as it will take a couple of months on medication for her hormones to stablize.

Please let me know if you have any more questions. I will be more than happy to help in any way possible.

Very sincerely,

Terri

Sometimes she can go a few days without throwing up. It's so wierd. Sometimes her stools are normal and I think she is better and then she starts all over again with the diarrhea. I even tried kaopectate. She use to be 16 lbs, and is now down to 7lbs. I had cut back on her food a year ago when she tried jumping up on the bed and fell back down. Her weight did her wrong. The vet told me she needed to lose some weight.I cut back on the hard stuff and the treats. This past few months I have been going back and forth trying to put weight on her and trying to cure the watery stools.

Thanks a lot Terri. I feel so helpless when she's sick like this. She's my baby. When I was going thru chemo she knew I was sick and slept on my bed with me. I hope this works....
